San Diego Boudoir Photography

I have been gabbing and gabbing about this hot new light that Weston made and surprised me with while Kimberlee n' I were speaking about boudoir in Chicago. I just did a shoot with it last week and I was able to use my light like crazy. I loooove it. I think it give such a "fashion" vibe while still providing the flattering soft light that is perfect for boudoir photography. This is Tina, a FULL PHOTO SHOOT client that was kind enough to show off her beautiful face. I love how she brought a dress as her 4th set outfit. Now her hubby will have appropriate photos to show off at work and put on his desk! Perfect!

Tina is getting married soon and will be giving this gift to her fiance. She drove all the way down from LA for her boudoir photography shoot.

I just love this interior furnishings store, Trappings in Sorrento Valley, San Diego. Walking around in their awesome warehouse is like taking a tour through the coolest interior designers' minds. And, as you know, we just looove to blog our favie things. So, vooolah.

We purchased some of our best boudoir pieces from this glorious place. Can't wait to find time to head over there to pick up some more stuff. How fun would it be to sneak in there an night and do a boudoir photo shoot!?! Hee hee.

She joined the Boucher team last week and is just diving right in to answering inquires, emails, and voicemails today! Yuliana just graduated from SDSU (Go Aztecs!) She likes all kinds of music, only sings "Just a Girl" by the lovely Gwen Stefani when doing karaoke, enjoys scrapbooking, and loves her 6-month old terrier mix from a local shelter!

he made me a homemade continuous light that looks so similar to ring flash! I am so lucky that he is sweet enough not only to concoct this project all on his own, but he surprised me and built it while I was in Chicago. Today I took some test photos of Weston, Crystal and Deena. Look at how flawless they look, I mean they are already gorgeous, but this is next level. Hello hotties! Can't wait to use it on you ladies out there who are considering a shoot.

Still thinking about how to use the light in background for a cool effect. We have lots of ideas, here is one.... (Crystal I know your eyes are closed, don't get mad at me,. you still look adorable)

Cruise for a Cause

We got to taste some delicious cake, watch brilliant dancers from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in San Diego, do some pretty amazing shopping, and most importantly, get to know lots of great gals! :)

A few months ago, Heather came to the studio for a Luxurious Platinum Boudoir Package. She was such a pleasure to work with, start to finish. Heather recently sent us an amazing e-mail, recounting her experience at The Boudoir Divas Studio.

Here is a little bit of that...

"Before I even set foot on the property, my correspondence with Amanda was fantastic and encouraging...she was everything I needed to help me be prepared, help me plan, everything, and she made setting up my appointment so easy... Then, right off the bat, Marissa made sure she was the first to greet me as soon as I ascended the staircase, after my personalized welcome sign, of course. As the owner, I thought that was SO gracious of her, especially since she wasn't going to be my photographer. Deena was available almost immediately to welcome me into the boutique... I felt conspicuous and was shaking. My nerves were set at ease so quickly by the warm sincerity of her welcome (and maybe a little by the champagne I was offered), and I quickly started to view Deena as more of a friend really, not a photographer. During my shoot, she paid attention to everything I would have expected a best friend to attend to...

My premiere was, again, an experience that I felt was planned for, not rushed at all. Amanda offered an insightful eye to my selection process, and I felt that she, like Deena, really cared how this product turned out for my soon-to-be husband. Deena sent me her proof, accommodated the minor tweaks I requested, and I think I had the phone call indicating the final product was ready a few short days after! And it was beautiful! And it was in a box with a bow, not just handed over to me, and it came with instructions, my release, my VIP card, my CD, all of it, all set up and idiot-proof!

The whole process, it was totally painless and completely gratifying! Crystal was there when I came for pick-up, so I've actually had the pleasure of meeting the whole crew, and she was just as warm and sweet as anyone else I encountered under that roof. She took the time to make sure I had opened and looked through everything, explained all the additional papers included, answered questions, smiled and complimented, and was just a doll.

I have already talked to my husband, we will be back together to do a Mommy-to-Be session together, and I look forward to perhaps some other encounters with you for future little surprises for him.

More than anything, we want our clients to feel like the photos are saucy. The Divas' definition of saucy is: movement and major hubby appeal. In order for us to accomplish that, the subjects can't look stiff and/or bored. The hands are a big part of that. There is an example above. Cute little touch to the photo huh? I love Jessica Thomas' body bootcamp called FIT2WED. Initially, when she started her wonderful biz she thought it would mainly be for brides... now she is now busting at the seams with botcampers from all walks of life. I expecially love her blog, where she has all kinds of tips on healthy eating and working out. Since I love my chocolate chip cookies every night whilst watching American Idol, or whatever other show I happen to have Tivo'd, I like to implement Jessica's wonderful recipes at least a few times during the week to counter balance my nighttime noshing. My body can't run off chips and salsa 24/7. Thanks for all the creative ideas Jessica!

On another note, quite a few of you email us and say you want a shoot but you are going to hit the gym for a few months and back to us. To that we say, "NOOOOO." Love yourself as you are NOW. As much as I think it is incredibly important to be healthy and nutritious, don't rob yourself of this wonderful photo shoot experience. Trust us, you will love your body ten times more after your shoot.

Today I got the sauciest, cutest, new vintage number from Victoria's Secret for our boudoir dressing room. Man oh man is it cute. I know that most gals bring in their own outfits, but I just can't help but buy these things. Also my Mother, and wonderful interior designer, found a new vintage couch for us that I am eager to photograph on. Thanks Mama! It will fit all the delicate, vintage, lingerie items that all the designers are coming out with perfectly. - Marissa

Hey Full Photo Shoot clients, boy oh boy do we have a fun idea for you!!! Bring your wedding dress and we can use it in the background as a prop for your shoot. I do this all the time for wedding clients, but why not for our boudoir clients as well right? These images were in a Vogue magazine that was purchased while we were in London. Aren't they just too hot. I am crazy about them. But the lighting and the set up for a shot like this would be pretty involved so it will only be available for our Full Photo Shoot Package. Love it!

The last few days I have been planning out a promo video for The Boudoir Divas Studio. Overall, we want the video to show you, our clients, who the photographers are, what our studio is like and get a general idea of what to expect when you come here for a shoot. Today I forced Crystal and Deena to let me me video them for a few minutes during their shoots. Then they turned the video camera on me. This is some dorky footage, but hopefully you will see that your shoot will be ridiculously fun. Obviously our promo video will be much more involved than this clip. But I couldn't help showing off a few of my fav shots before the whole thing is done.

When Crystal saw this video she mentioned that it looks like the theme intro to Punky Brewster or something. I think she is right! Oh well, we are dorky and we know it.

Lucky Grooms Get Sexy Gifts

Melissa won a FREE Photo Shoot that we gave the Wedding Chicks to post on their Blog! She flew all the way from Atlanta, Georgia to take advantage of this fun experience! I asked the owner of Douce et Romantique how to properly pronounce the name of her adorable lingerie boutique. Frederique sweetly replied “Do-Say Roe-man-teek” in her French accent. Being a visual person, I have to say that I noticed the décor right away. The space has a very clean, elegant look. I told Frederique that I loved the furniture and she said all of the décor was brought in from France! As I browsed through her large boutique, I saw that the store offers a good range of prices. Some items were quite affordable and some a bit more expensive. Frederique told me that she orders new styles of lingerie and sleepwear every week to ensure variety for her clients. She also said that she would happily special order anything (including sizes she may not have in stock). Her lingerie comes from France and she orders her unique jewelry from Paris. Douce et Romantique, which, by the way, means “Sweet and Romantic” will also have a swimsuit selection for the coming San Diego Summer. "His side"

Usually, the last thing I say when a client is walking out the door with her completed book/gift in hand is, "keep in touch and please let me know how he reacts!" Some girls might think I'm just saying that to be nice, but I truly mean it! It really brightens my day when a client who recently gave her guy the gift of sexy photos emails me with an update :). I received a cute note such as this from Carrie a few days ago. She gave her new hubby his book as his groom's gift. Congratulations, Carrie, and thank you for sharing! Here's her note followed by the photo she emailed me...

When Carrie and I were discussing her outfits and set choices before her photo shoot started, she pulled a couple of colorful scarves out of her bag and said, "I wear a lot of scarves and thought it would be fun to incorporate that into my photo shoot." For a second I started to feel nervous because I worried that if she were wearing a scarf, she would be all covered up, and how is that sexy? But, then I realized that the scarf could be the outfit, and all of the sudden it was totally sexy! It was fun that her style shined through.

Laura and Delana of The Jeff and Jer Showgram

I had a really great time taking Laura and Delana's photos yesterday. The studio was a buzz with the excitement that we had real life San Diego celebrities under our roof. What cracked me up was that I have listened to Laura's voice over the radio for so long that when I was talking to her in person I felt like I was talking to an old friend. I wonder if she gets weirded out when people chat with her like they totally know her. Lol. I know I probably would.

The ladies really did an incredible job. Such confidence! I just love it. I couldn't be happier with the images. We did a fun glam shoot and a boudoir shoot. Thanks again for having us on the air guys, what a great day.

Big thanks to Peggy Rogers who did the hair and make up. Just awesome!

I didn't have quite as much time to photograph Delana as I did with Laura, so I didn't get quite as many shots of her as I would have liked. Next time! I could have shot these two all day long.

Also, sorry if I am confusing you all with putting "Woman Captured" on the images above after just announcing our big name change. But I announced the change the day before we went on the Jeff and Jer showgram and referred to our studio as WC on there, so I didn't want to give them all the images above with "The Boudoir Divas" and confuse their listeners. What I have planned for Laura and Delana tomorrow

I am so stoked that I get a chance to take photos of Laura and Delana from Star 94.1. They are totally making that list this time, I have no idea why they didn't make it in the first place. I have a couple of looks planned out for them, we'll see what they think of them.

We want to make sure that the pics are sexy, fun, flirty, hip and not too risque. I want them to look like hip, retro stars without showing too much skin. I am hoping that I can also get cute pics of them in just their normal outfits as well to really showcase who they truly are at heart. Okay, I am sitting here so tense right now because I am about to spill the beans on a huge secret I have been holding back on for awhile! Ahhhh, here goes. "Woman Captured by Boucher "is changing it's name to, "The Boudoir Divas." There, I said it. Whew. I am terrible at keeping in surprises, so you can imagine how hard this was for me. I know, it is just a name change. But for me it is like having a baby and deciding 4 years later that you are going to change her name from Sara to Jessica. Yowsers.

I know we have mentioned it a few times, but a while back Kimberlee West (at the time a boudoir photographer for Woman Captured) and I wrote a book about boudoir photography for other photographers. We didn't realize how much demand there was for this sort of education and have been traveling the country (and soon Paris and Australia!!!) to teach other boudoir photogs about adding this to their services. It has been a little challenging marketing the two individually. Initially when I start Woman Captured I intended to make the portraits very artsy, more of a black and white fine art appeal. And although we definitely do get a bit of that, I would have to say that our overall feel and marketing has definitely gone in a much girlier, kitchy, "DIVA-ish" direction.

Last Friday, Frances, came in for a Luxurious Platinum photo shoot. Before arriving at our studio, she went and got her hair and make-up done at the AMAZING Mermaid Salon. We had so much fun, and I can’t wait for her to see all her proofs at her Premier next week.

Paris Casting Call!!!

Weston and I will be doing a demo engagement shoot in Paris on April 4, 09 for our Boudoir Divas workshop attendees. We are looking for a loving, energetic couple who would want a photo shoot done in the City of Light, Paris! The shoot will be a few hours long, so even though you would have to pay for your own airfare, the shoot is on us. What a great excuse to spend a few days in Paris. I honestly cannot even begin to imagine how hot these images are going to look. In order to remain elegant and classy, it is very important that Woman Captured have a clear definition of what boudoir photography is to us. Woman Captured believes that boudoir photography is private and sexy photography for his eyes only. It is the opportunity to show every woman that she is uniquely beautiful. It is a rewarding experience that we believe every woman should treat herself to. We don't believe that you need to hit the gym for a month before your shoot, let's celebrate who you are right now. My friend wonderful friend Leah had a shoot recently and I just love how she describes what is important to her in a photographer. As we have mentioned before we provide educational materials to other boudoir photographers, so you will notice that she is addressing other photogs, but I still think her words ring true as it is our hope here at WC that we make it clear that we truly believe that every woman is create uniquely beautiful. I've been in Vegas the last 6 days helping out Marissa (owner of Woman Captured) and her "Boudoir Divas" biz partner, Kimberlee, by spreading the word to other photographers about boudoir photography. The Boudoir Divas hosted a workshop and also have a booth at the most well-know tradeshow in the wedding and portrait photography industry. Pin Up Party... Military Style

We had such a blast with these hot military wives! The girls came in on a Thursday afternoon armed with a bottle of wine, sexy lingerie, and fun-loving attitudes! The whole Woman Captured team worked together in order to make the shoot run with ease. Because each girl chose a different set, Deena and I shot simulatiously. Marissa helped to process the photos to prepare them for viewing and Amanda walked the girls through their "Premier." Amanda commented that it was the most fun she's had since working here! The girls had a great time helping each other choose the photos for their books right after their photo shoots.

Mr. Postman brought me, Deena, something real sweet today. Key word being SWEET!

Salat came in for a shoot in December, during our Sexy Simple Santa Special. Salat wanted to take some sexy photos for her man, who is in the military. We had a great time in her shoot and her pictures turned out great.

Today, I got a special delivery in the form of a big yellow envelope. I very rarely get mail at the office; if I do get mail, it is junk, but this WAS NOT junk. Salat sent me something sweet. She sent me an adorable thank-you card along with a yummy box of Godiva Chocolates!!! :)

So it is time to thank the incredible people that I get to work with on a day to day basis. If you are who your surround yourself with than I am the luckiest person on this place called Earth. Weston, Crystal, Amanda, Deena, and Kimee you have no idea how lucky I feel to be able to spend 5 days a week with you. Seriously. I just had to thank you for putting up with my mood swings around tax season, my lapse in short term memory on a day to day basis and my yelling "Babe" one million times a day to Weston two offices away. Valentines Mini Shoot (great if you just want to give a few prints)

Our special Valentine's "Mini Shoot" is for girls who want to give their hubby a few prints for Valentine's Day, maybe an 8x10 Nightstand print or one large framed photo for the bedroom. The Valentine's Day Mini Shoot includes a 20 minute photo shoot on 2 sets with 2 outfits, with ten minutes of photography on each set. The sets will be our bright "Pin-Up" set, and our darker, moodier, "Maxim" set. You will be coached through our favorite poses on each of these sets. You will receive a $50 credit, which will go towards prints or products of your choice.

This special is only available on select dates, so act fast!
These date are: 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 1/6 and Saturday 2/7 from 10AM-5PM.

Valentine's Day Shoot VS. Packages:
Unfortunately, to accommodate this sort of session, we will be shooting for only 20 minutes. This means you won't have the luxurious VIP experience that you receive with our normal packages. All of our custom packages include albums and allow for 30 minutes of photography on each set, giving you much more variety. Don't get us wrong, you will have a blast doing the Mini Shoot, but if this is going to be the ONE time you come to our studio, might as well treat yourself to the full supermodel experience.

This studio is such a dream realized. It lets us give our clients the full VIP experience and it really allows the space to create one-of-a-kind boudoir sets that makes your photos look like a real magazine shoot. I can't even express how blessed I feel that I have such a fabulous job and that I get to work with the most incredible people. Weston, Kimee, Deena, Crystal, Amanda and I all feel like family at this point and I really couldn't ask for anything more. Nightstand Portraits. Boudoir for the Bedroom!

I went to my friend Alice's house a while back, I had done her boudoir photo shoot and on her hubby's nightstand there was one of her gorgeous portraits in a beautiful frame. It was a black and white image, classy, but still very sexy. It was the perfect spot for a photo of her, after all "boudoir" means private bedroom. It got me to thinking about just how perfect boudoir photos are for a bedroom. Finding the perfect bedroom artwork has always been a challenge for me because you want it to be personal, romantic, and still not too girly. Before seeing Alice's bedroom portrait I had always thought that the album was the best way to display these intimate photos, but I now think that the bedroom portrait is a must-do accompaniment to the album. I realized that if anyone comes into your bedroom it is a close gal pal who knows you well anyway and has more that likely already seen your photos. So plaster away, you know your hubby will love it! Every type of boudoir portrait looks good, from pin-up to artsy, but my ultimate fav is black and white like Alice had in her room. -M

Introducing "The Diva Center"

I came across this one-of-a-kind, woman-boosting center by complete chance a couple weeks ago while driving through Pacific Beach. The sign boasting "Diva Center" struck my curiosity, so I had to see what it was all about!

I was greeted by Jenn Seeger, the President of the company, and we chatted for over an hour! The entire Woman Captured team loves what Jenn has started and wanted to share more info for our girls :).

The goal of The Diva Center is to provide women with the necessary tools to find balance and success in all areas of their lives. They provide workshops, clubs, and social events to get you on your way!

DIVA stands for Driven, Intelligent, Vivacious, Achiever and the center’s mission is to give women the richest life possible by learning the secrets to success directly from local experts.

Two of Woman Captured's "Boudoir Divas" are in Dallas

As we have mentioned in the past the Woman Captured Studio has gained quite a bit of interest from other boudoir photographers around the world. Because we love boudoir so much we wanted to create educational resources to share with other photographers. So last year Kimberlee and I (Marissa) teamed up and wrote a book all about running a boudoir studio. For fun and distinction we named ourselves "The Boudoir Divas." We have been lucky enough to be invited to speak at photography organizations and conventions around the US and are even hosting a workshop in PARIS, France. Yippee! Today we are in beautiful Dallas to speak at the Dallas PPA. Kimee's parents were kind enough to host us as they live in the coziest, cutest, house in the world. Their brick country style home is gorgeous. And I loved that I was greeted with a plate of homemade cookies on my bed. Thanks Carol!

As much as we love to travel I can't wait to be back in the studio. I am sure Crystal , Deena and Amanda are holding up the fort just fine. Oh and wedding clients who read this blog, Weston, my love, and Captain of things "wedding," is there if you need anything! :)

Korey & Josh: Their Story

Kimberlee!!

I had to write you as soon as I got back and tell you how much Josh LOVED the album! I had my maid of honor deliver it to him, followed by anotehr bridesmaid with my camera. I have the CUTEST pictures of him looking at it. First he looked embarrassed, but then he gets this total smirk on his face like, "this is so awesome!" He was shy but he loved it. After the wedding he asked me all kinds of questions about the process, was it fun, where did the outfits come from, etc. He told me that all he was htinking when he looked at it is that he couldn't believe he was going to marry such a beautiful woman. :) (Maybe he said "hot," not beautiful, but you know...) ANYWAY, I would love to send you a picture of him viewing the album if you are interested, and maybe other brides would like to see proof of a satisfied groom? Thank you, again. I felt like a sexy model and had the time of my life, and my new husband really appreciated it. Win-win!

Wow, TONS of exciting news to announce this week! Here's another thing that's very exciting... Marissa & Kimberlee had their article and images published in Rangefinder, a magazine for professional photographers! Marissa & Kimee have written a book about boudoir photography, and they are currently speaking to photographers across the nation, leading seminars about boudoir! They also lead workshops for boudoir photography, and in the Spring of 09 they're heading to PARIS for a fabulous boudoir workshop. So many exciting things are ahead for them... we can't wait to see what's next! :)

That's right ladies, it is Beast Cancer awareness month.

Last week, Crystal (Studio Manager) and I, Amanda (Client Concierge) were talking about Breast Cancer awareness month and talked about different ways to get involved in finding a cure.

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer, which is an incredibly sobering statistic.

Time to bust out the boxing gloves and fight! :)

On Friday, October 17th, we will be at Macy's in Fashion Valley, taking part in the Wacoal Knockout Breast Cancer Event...
